Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust wins the 2018 Pathfinder Award

The Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT) has received the 2018 Pathfinder Award – an award presented by The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and its World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) as well as WildArk- A Movement for the Wild, and which recognises outstanding and innovative solutions for protected and conserved areas, developed and implemented by individuals, organisations or groups.

PONT is a transboundary conservation trust fund created to finance the conservation of the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Prespa region – one of MAVA’s iconic sites that covers parts of Albania, Greece and Macedonia. Established in 2015 with initial funding from MAVA and the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through KfW Development Bank, and supported technically by WWF Greece and the Frankfurt Zoological Society, PONT illustrates our approach to developing sustainable finance tailored to local needs and conditions. See more about our work with PONT here.

MAVA warmly congratulates Mirjam de Koning, PONT Executive Director, and her team for receiving this award.
