Traditionally, farming supported diverse landscapes but increasing demand for food, changing diets and intensification of agriculture have led to profound change in Switzerland.

Larger machinery and drainage of lowland wetlands has created an increasingly uniform landscape that has already lost many species. And more traditional mountain farming struggles to compete leading to abandonment or intensification.

We aim to promote agriculture policies that reduce or eliminate negative environmental impacts and strengthen support for truly sustainable agriculture by:

  • analyzing shortcomings and designing improvements in policies and payments
  • stimulating a new debate on the future of agriculture, health and nutrition
  • promoting improvements and solutions to administrations, politicians, experts and media

Vision Landwirtschaft
"I’ve loved nature since I was about 12! And working on lots of farms when I was studying gave me tremendous insight into the problems and opportunities in Swiss agriculture. With friends, we’d take direct action – like helping farmers mow and restore steep species-rich meadows!"

Annual Budget

MAVA has allocated CHF 1,000,000 annually

The Action Plan annual budget is estimated at CHF 1,850,000

Remaining needs are covered by Natura Pro, Greenpeace, Schweizer Vogelschutz and WWF
