The linear model of economic production cannot create prosperity for a growing world population without severe negative impact on natural systems.

Circular economy offers an alternative by reducing raw material input and waste to a minimum through designing products for circularity – reuse, repurpose, recycle.

Only a cross-sectoral systemic approach can drive significant and lasting change.

We aim to create replicable circular economy models that address city challenges, and create EU and national legislation that promotes replication of these models by:

  • increasing city engagement with circular economy
  • increasing leadership in thought and action
  • advocating for ambitious circular economy policies within the EU Green Deal

Metabolic
Circularity is an opportunity to reinvent how we live and how do business – but just like doing Rubik’s cube, we have to ensure that in solving one problem, we don’t create another.

Budget

MAVA has allocated CHF 22 million over 6 years to this action plan.

Substantial additional funding is provided by other coordinated and aligned projects.
