Second simultaneous south eastern European Pelican Census

Covering all of South East Europe, Ukraine and Turkey, a second pelican census was carried out on 6 May 2017. Simultaneous counts took place at 119 wetlands in 8 countries, all in the space of one afternoon.

This international census concerned two pelican species: the globally endangered Dalmatian Pelican and the Great White Pelican. It was an initiative and was coordinated by the Society for the Protection of Prespa, one of MAVA’s long-lasting partners based in Prespa, Greece. Organisations and individuals from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, the FYR of Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine took part in the census.

The results of the census and more information about the activity can be found here.
