Sustainable fisheries in West Africa: building experts’ capacities

As part of MAVA’s Action Plan aiming to improve the management of stocks of small pelagics in West Africa, RAMPAO is coordinating the implementation of the plan’s component on capacity building. RAMPAO is also working together with other partners, including the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), for the implementation of this project.

Within the framework of these capacity building activities, MSC is organizing a level 2 training workshop in Senegal from 28 January to 1 February 2019 for fisheries technicians, protected area managers and local community leaders.

The main objective of this workshop is to train a group of experts from the sub-region, mainly from Mauritania, Senegal and Guinea Bissau, on sustainable fisheries. Specifically, the training intends to ensure the participants gain knowledge on MSC standards and fisheries assessment processes, thereby enabling them to put these tools into practice while carrying out fisheries pre-assessments and developing and articulating management improvement action plans.
