On November 24, 2018, the Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve of Lebanon was awarded the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas certificate. The ceremony took place in Egypt, during the UN Biodiversity Conference (CBD COP 14), at the Ras Mohammad protected area. A delegation from the Al-Shouf Cedar Society led by its President, Mr Charles Noujaim, was in attendance to receive the certificate.

MAVA has been supporting the Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve for some time, given its importance for biodiversity conservation. Currently the Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve is one of the sites supported by the MAVA Mediterranean Programme, within the framework of its action on sustainable land-use practices.

The IUCN Green List Standard certifies protected areas that produce successful conservation outcomes through effective and equitable management. The Green List certification is awarded after detailed assessment of effectiveness of management and governance.

MAVA congratulates the Al-Shouf Cedar Society for this achievement.
