Exchanges around support for civil society organisations in West Africa (Gorée, Senegal, 21-22 November 2017)

A workshop took place in Goree (Dakar, Senegal) in order to gather experts who support NGOs in West Africa. This workshop, which was jointly organised by MAVA and the PeaceNexus Foundation and took place at the Gorée Institute, enabled more than a dozen experts from Senegal, Togo, Burkina Faso and Niger to get together. In a relaxed setting, the experts talked about the specific issues of the civil society in West Africa before focussing on their support work, and more specifically on their roles (coach, mentor, partner, facilitator, trainer, model, observer, technical advisor, expert). This is a key question when driving a support process for an organisation where many different roles may be needed (and that need to be clarified). PeaceNexus and MAVA, who are both working on supporting partner organisations in West Africa, also discussed the, often delicate, triangular relation between an organisation, the donor and the support expert.

MAVA and PeaceNexus sincerely thank the workshop participants as well as the staff from the Goree Institute for their warm welcome.
