Assad Serhal awarded MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity 2018

Mr Assad Serhal, Director General of the Society for the Protection of Nature (SPNL) in Lebanon has been named one of the recipients of the MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity 2018 which is a biennial international prize organised by the AEON Environmental Foundation and the General Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. It honours individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity at global, or local levels.

Assad Serhal is one of the founders of SPNL, the national partner for BirdLife International in Lebanon, and a very prominent actor in conservation in Lebanon. MAVA has been working closely with Assad and his team for many years, focusing especially on the conservation of birds and wetlands and the revitalisation of Himas (protected areas in Arabic), a community-based traditional system for area-based conservation. We warmly congratulate Assad for receiving this award.
